How is everyone doing? If you can tell by the title of this post today is Saba Day and it is one of the few reasons to celebrate today. And my way of celebrating my island’s day is doing what I do best and that is, of course, writing poetry.
How are you all? I usually do not post on Saturdays but here I am! Though it may be a bit short notice I wanted to let you, my lovely followers, know that on Sunday (which is tomorrow) I will be doing a short spoken word at Rooms Hostel along with other singers from a singing school called Vocalsz. How is everyone doing? Although, I do not make it a habit of posting twice in a day (later today will be posting again sometime after 8.30 pm, Dutch time) today counts as a special occasion. Earlier today I received an email from my assigned book consultant regarding my children’s picture book, Baby Toucan, being published. Continue reading
How are you all doing? On Friday I received a draft layout of my children’s picture book cover page and interior design (gallery) and I could not be happier. Of course, I already had somewhat of a basic idea of how I wanted my book to appear like most authors do but when I received my gallery last week the layout exceeded my expectations. I was impressed, to say the least Continue reading
Earlier today a thought crossed my mind and I realised that January 8 (although the date has already passed) made two years that I became a published author to my first poetry book, I’m Only Human. Then I thought “Damn! Time sure does fly.” The saying ‘Time waits for no one’ is very true indeed. I wish time could slow down just a little. It is going way too fast. My gosh! Continue reading
Hello, all you lovely readers and followers. I really appreciate your continued readership and following.
Today my Thoughts of the Day topic will be about telling you all that: almost anyone who has the ambitions of becoming a writer can be a writer if that is what they really want.
After becoming a self-published author of my first poetry collection, I’m Only Human, (and a blogger of Angie’s Inspiration) I realised there are about four essential things all writers should have when venturing into the art of writing and book publishing. These four essential qualities are:
1. Having the confidence to put your work out into the world despite criticism that may arise in the near or distant future. You must always be prepared for criticism.
2. Having the drive to write your book because despite the consensus belief that writing a book is no big deal and is quite easy… think again. It is not easy. Writing your own book can be very hard and tiring. It takes time and consumes most of your time and mental energy.
3. Having a goal or vision for your book is especially important. Why is writing this book so important to you and how will you be conveying that message to your target audience in a way they can relate. So, no, you do not need to be a highly intelligent person to be able to write a book as so many people mistakenly believe. You just need to have a goal and/ or a vision and be convincing enough to convey your story.
4. A writer must have the perseverance to continue writing despite the past or future failures or if your work does not catch on to the general public right away. Writing, like any other profession, takes a lot of time and you will need the will of steel to continue writing. You will not end up becoming a J.K Rowlings overnight because not even J.K. Rowlings became what she is today overnight. She also had a lot of publishers reject her work in the very beginning. Not to mention, writing books can be quite mentally gruelling. And not having your work recognised after all of the hard work you put into it can also be quite depressing. Especially, considering the literary sector is steadily growing smaller and smaller because in this advancing world of technology images and videos are becoming more and more the norm.
I hope you enjoyed reading my blog post if even just a little. If you have more to add to the list please post them in the comment section below. I would be very happy to read what you have.
Have a great day and see you all next time.
