How are you all? Today has been quite a lazy day, although, I have not been completely lazing around the house as much as I would like to right now. These past couple days I have been trying to write a children’s story for children aged seven years and older.
The reason I am writing (another) children’s story is because I was somewhat invited to join a competition to write a children’s short story thanks to a personal contact I know from my island, Saba. I say ‘competition’ because of lack of a better word, but it is a Dutch Caribbean regional writing event for writers who, if they win, could be chosen to represent their island and show their talent as a writer. Each island will allow a couple of writers to represent their island. These writers will be given the chance to write a children’s story of their choice but something that is still related to their island and culture. The best writer and story that is chosen will represent their island and then continues on to the next phase where the best story of the respective islands will be chosen. The winner at the end of all of this will get the opportunity to have their story published by a publisher and distributed among the islands if I am not mistaken.
I thought it would be a good opportunity for me to participate in something like this. I have not done anything like this before. All of my writing and publishing was done on my own initiative. So, I thought it would be fun to do. Of course, I am quite nervous regarding the outcome and everything, I will not let that stop me from trying. Even if I do not win I still want to have fun and at least be able to say that I tried. Like the saying goes “Nothing beats a failure but a try.” But, of course, I am still participating with every intention of winning.
Anyway, the deadline is drawing nearer as I type this and I have just a few days to complete this story. So, wish me luck and we shall see where this goes! Take care and have a great day everyone!
